Innovation in Palliative Care
Personalising care through Innovation
The Palliative Nexus Group is leveraging technology and innovative approaches to tailor palliative care to individual needs, improving symptom management and quality of life for patients with advanced cancer.
OPPtic registry
This pilot study establishes a clinical opioid pharmacogenomics database in palliative care. While opioids effectively manage pain for most cancer patients, some experience significant side effects. By identifying clinical, biological, and genetic factors influencing efficacy and side effects, the goal is to personalize opioid prescriptions for better pain relief.
partner study
People with advanced illness often experience fluctuating symptoms and uncertainty about when to seek help. This study implements remote symptom monitoring via smartphone, allowing patients to alert clinical teams about escalating symptoms. The pilot at Royal Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Hospitals evaluates feasibility, acceptability, and impact on patient care.

genos trial
The GENOS Registry Trial aims to revolutionise cancer pain management by validating a personalised medicine approach that tailors opioid treatment to individual biological profiles. By examining key biomarkers that influence opioid responses in people with cancer, the study aims to improve symptom control, reduce treatment inefficacy, and minimise resource waste across clinical care
